I have been a manager for a long time, and I have been recognized for delivering great service and turnover(percentage of how many people quit) for my entire career. How? By hiring and retaining great people.
I have a saying, ‘It’s much easier to higher the right person and teach them to make sandwiches then it is to hire the wrong person and teach them to smile!’. I get that might not work for an engineering job, but it certainly works in the restaurant business. That’s the difference between success and failure. You are graded as a manager(or leader) on how well you can earn your team’s respect and get them to focus on what is important.
That’s about as simple as I can make it. Hire the right people and treat them well so they don’t want to leave. All of the results will come when you start with the team and the culture.
Never stop believing in yourself! Talk to you soon 🙂
